Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Forrest Griffin

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (16-2-0) is recognized around the world as one of the best, if not the very best, light heavyweight fighter in the world. Since making his MMA debut in '02, "Shogun" has beaten all comers, including "Rampage" who he knocked out in April of '05.

Forrest Griffin, sports a mixed martial arts record of 14-4. Griffin appeared on the debut season of The Ultimate Fighter and eventually came out the victor of the light heavyweight division. Griffin made a splash early scoring impressive victories over Stephan Bonnar, Bill Mahood, and Elvis Sinosic. At UFC 59 Griffin faced Tito Ortiz in what turned out to be one of the better fights of the year. In the end Ortiz scored the decision victory. Since that time Griffin has gone 2-1 with victories over Stephan Bonnar and Hector Ramirez. His sole loss came to the hands of Keith Jardine.

UFC 76: Ryoto Machida vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura

Ryoto Machida (10-0) will take on Kazuhiro Nakamura (11-6) in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 76: “Knockout” on September 22, according to UFC.com. Up until two weeks ago, Machida was widely believed to be the opponent for UFC newcomer Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. That fight never panned out, and now Machida is up against another talented fighter set to make his Octagon debut.
