UFC 74 Vegas Odds - Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga

UFC 74: Respect set for August 25th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Randy Couture will defend his UFC Heavyweight Title against Gabriel Gonzaga. Also former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre will take on top-rated contender Josh Koscheck.

Randy "The Natural" Couture is coming off a gigantic win over the former Champ Tim Sylvia. Randy completed dominated the 6'8" giant to gain the heavyweight title in UFC 68. This will be his toughest fight yet! During UFC 57, Couture lost to Chuck Liddell by knock out. Randy Couture is 44 years old, weighs 220 lbs. and stands at 6'2". He is fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He holds a MMA record of 15-8-0. He is a great wrestler and dangerous
in the clinch.

Couture is one of the greatest takedown artists of all-time. In addition, his ground and pound skills, cardio, and heart are unquestionably upper tier. Further, he's a better than average striker with very good defense on his feet and a chin to boot. Of course, Couture's weaknesses are his age and size.

Gabriel Gonzaga holds an overall MMA record of 8-1 with three (T)KO's and five submission victories to his credit. Along with this, he's a big heavyweight (242 pounds) with outstanding jiu-jitsu/ submission skills. Further, the assumption that he had weak striking skills went right out the window once he knocked Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic out cold.

With his thrilling destruction of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 70: “Nations Collide,” Gabriel Gonzaga is set to face Randy Couture for the heavyweight title.

This will be one hell of a fight. Randy most likely could have controlled the ground game against Mirko. He’s going to have his hands full with Gonzaga who destroyed Cro Cop on the ground.

This is definitely a fight that could go either way both are good on the ground and can strike well. Even though age advantage goes to Gonzaga I still feel like The natural will pull it out somehow.

Canada’s favorite George “Rush” St-Pierre takes on Josh Koscheck in a welterweight battle. St-Pierre recently lost his last fight to Matt Serra in an embarrassing fight. St-Pierre has beaten some seriously good fighters in the past and is looking to get his title back. Rush excels in takedowns, his ground-n-pound is exceptional and he has some serious strength.

His opponent will be Josh Koscheck who is an athletic fighter who can go the distance and is a wrestling style fighter. His last fight against Diego Sanchez was an absolute bore.

He respected his opponent too much and didn’t want to initiate anything. St-Pierre is 5’10”, 170lb while Koscheck is 5’10”, 170lb, so they’re pretty much the same in this department. If Koscheck had
troubles with Sanchez he’s definitely going to have a hard time against St-Pierre.
