Bellator 59 took place November 26, 2011 from Caesar's Atlantic City in Atlantic City, New Jersey. After a full month stretch, the upstart promotion finally had the night to themselves.

The first tournament bout of the night was in the bantamweight division between Eduardo Dantas and Alexis Vila. Things started out good for the wrestler Vila but Dantas made the correct adjustments between rounds and turned the fight around in his favor.

Eric Prindle vs. Thiago Santos:

Santos had taken Prindle down twice, showcasing a significantly better ground game as expected, but inexplicably, he chose to get to his feet and lord over the grounded US army veteran. Instead of continuing to attack with ground and pound or potential submissions, Santos instead decided it would be a better idea to soccer kick Prindle where the sun don't shine.

The strike didn't look that bad from the multiple replay angles that were shown, but Prindle used his full five minutes and then stated he felt like he was going to throw up, so the fight was stopped just 1:24 into the first round and officially ruled a no contest once it was determined that the blow was accidental.

Prindle and Santos will rematch sometime early in 2012 when Bellator returns, but that certainly wasn't the way the promotion wanted its exciting fifth season to conclude.

Eduardo Dantas vs. Alexis Vila:

They touch gloves, and Vila immediately comes forward and scores a takedown. The Brazilian threatens with submissions from the bottom and Vila stands up, throwing kicks at Dantas’ legs. Dantas gets up and connects with a jumping knee. Vila gets a body lock and pushes Dantas against the fence. Vila can’t do much with the position, however. Dantas tries to push the Cuban away from the cage, but Vila regains the position and looks for a single leg.

Vila attacks for a single leg early, but Dantas resists. Vila isn’t letting go as the Brazilian attempts to spin away. Dantas finally breaks away and lands a looping right hand. Another solid punch from Dantas is followed up by a kick to the body. An outside leg kick from Dantas finds its mark. Vila rushes forward, using punches to set up a takedown attempt before pushing Dantas against the cage.

Dantas snaps an outside leg kick to start things, then lands another. His jab seems to be finding its mark as well. Vila slips as Dantas attempts a knee. Another knee attempt from the Brazilian lands just below Vila’s chest. The fight hits the mat and Dantas takes his opponent’s back. On the ground, Dantas has one hook in and looks for a rear naked choke. Now the other hook is in, but his back is against the cage.

Patricky Freire vs. Kurt Pellegrino:

Kevin McDonald is the referee for this lightweight tussle. Pellegrino begins the bout on the outside, using angles to combat Freire’s power. A left hook followed by a big right hand from Freire instantly drops Pellegrino, and the New Jersey native grabs a leg in desperation. Pitbull continues to pound away relentlessly on his prone opponent.

Pellegrino looks like he’s attempting to roll out of the position, but it’s too late, as McDonald intervenes to stop the beating, giving Pitbull a TKO victory just 50 seconds into the opening frame.
