Bellator 17 was a mixed martial arts event by Bellator Fighting Championships. The event took place on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Citi Performing Arts Center: Wang Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts.

Up first, Pat Curran pulled off a major upset by earning a unanimous decision victory over Roger Huerta in a semifinal round of Bellator’s season 2 lightweight tournament.

Both fighters used kicks as their weapon of choice throughout the three round affair. Curran’s kicks were more effective, along with his superior takedown defense; he did do enough for the judges to award him the victory (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). Curran (11-3) will move onto the 155-pound final in what will be the biggest fight of his career. Huerta (21-4-1) falls for the third time in his last four fights.

Alvarez vs Neer:

Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez put on a dominant performance in his fight against UFC veteran Josh Neer, using a powerful standing rear naked choke to put Neer to sleep at 2:08 into Round 2. The win improved Alvarez’s impeccable overall record to 20-2 and added to the growing argument that he is the world’s top 155-pound fighter.

Curran vs Huerta:

Pat Curran, the 22-year-old descendant of MMA royalty pulled off one of the most shocking upsets in recent memory witha hard-fought unanimous decision victory over former UFC standout and Bellator Lightweight Tournament favorite Roger Huerta.

Imada vs Vanier:

MMA veteran Toby Imada earned his way to the lightweight tournament finals in impressive fashion absorbing a flurry of first round strikes from former all-American college wrestler Carey Vanier (8-3) before eventually regaining control and finishing him via armbar at 3:33 in Round 2.

Konrad vs Bennett:

Bennett lands a jab, then a left hook. Konrad gets a body lock then trips him with a takedown and is in half guard. Konrad is HUGE. Konrad controlling from half guard and landing shots to the body. Bennett has full guard, and punches from the bottom as Konrad postures up. Konrad in half guard now working to advance. Konrad with elbows and punches to the face.
